Follow the Blazes – Trail Blazes and Their Meaning Hiking Ontario

Trail Blazing is a way of marking directions on trails with marks called Blazes to show where the trail is heading. Blazes can be found on trees or any permanent structure along a trail. Although the shape and placement of the blazes may be universal, different trails use different colours. In Ontario white blazes are mostly used by the Bruce Trail and Blue for it’s side trails. Please note that some parks where the Bruce Trail does not run through also use white blazes as it is the universal colour for blazes. Before heading out familiarizing yourself with the trail you are hiking would be a good idea.

Below are photos of blazes and their meaning.

In Ontario most of the time Blue Blazes represent the side trails along the Bruce Trail.
