I contacted the Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks - Halton Peel District Office by email with questions about the oil dumping in the stormwater pond near Coleraine Drive and George Bolton Parkway.
In the email response they were able to confirm what kind of oil was spilled, the location of the stormwater pond, and that this was an isolated incident.
In a follow up telephone call they confirmed that they received the report from the Town of Caledon with respect to the oil dumping the morning of Wednesday June 25th, 2025 and that the cleanup is ongoing consisting of pumping and skimming and that the pond has not been drained. They also did not currently have information on the amount of fish and wildlife affected.
The email from The Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks - Halton Peel District Office
Good afternoon Mira,
Hope you had a good weekend. I’m following up on my voice message to you from last Friday and earlier this morning.
Below is information which I hope answers some of your questions related to the oil spill to the stormwater pond near Coleraine Drive and George Bolton Parkway.
This spill event occurred because of the suspected illegal dumping of oil to a roadway catch basin on Simpson Road, which connects to the stormwater management pond owned and operated by the Town of Caledon.
The Town of Caledon collected samples and identified the substance as automotive waste oil.
The ministry has received no reports of previous spill occurrences at this site, and reasonably considers this to be an isolated event.
The ministry is not involved in the cost recovery related to the clean up efforts.
The stormwater pond shown by the second photo in your email is confirmed to be the impacted area. The material is contained to the stormwater pond and clean up and restoration activities are ongoing.
Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss further. Thank you.
Regards,
Christina Liu
