There is no fee for the forest, but there is if you want to walk through the gardens of Tenryu-ji Kohojo Bubbhist Temple. $5.00 per person will allow you to walk though the gates of the most beautiful gardens in Japan. The peaceful atmosphere of the gardens of the zen temple also gives you breathtaking mountain views.
The temple is Kyoto's Unesco World Heritage Site.
Getting to the Bamboo Forest is key as even at 10:00am it was pretty busy. As you exit the garden gates you walk uphill towards the Bamboo Forest.
