Amanohashidate Sandbar Miyazu
Amanohashidate Sandbar Miyazu is one of the three most scenic views in all of Japan. It is a beautiful 3 km long natural sandbar known as the bridge to heaven that connects two communities. At the start of the sandbar there are a number of restaurants and shops and it's also where the Chionji Temple is.
The Amanohashidate Sandbar is a narrow sandbar lined with pine trees and beautiful beaches with breathtaking views of mountains on both sides. You can walk or bike it or take a ferry from one side to the other to get a different view. We rented bikes for only $5.00 (Canadian) each.
The eastern coast of the Sandbar is lined by white sand beaches. We stopped half way to take a dip in Miyazu Bay. The water was refreshing to swim in and there were outdoor showers and change-rooms.
When we got to the other side at the bottom of the mountain we left our bikes on the side of the road and for a small fee took a gondola to the top of the mountain. The views are breathtaking and you can't help, but take tons of photos.
There are three spots set up to see the heavenly ladder. You bend over reaching for your toes, then look through your legs at the sandbar to reveal the heavenly ladder.
On the way down we took the chairlift and made our way back.
